Job Summary: 
The Freight Auditor is responsible for auditing carrier invoices, approving payments, and serving as the primary point of contact for resolving billing issues. This role identifies operational issues, offers process improvement recommendations, and manages a defined portfolio of accounts alongside various cross-functional projects. The Freight Auditor reports directly to the Director of Audit. 

Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Audit and process freight invoices with accuracy and efficiency. 

  • Partner with carriers to review aging reports and resolve billing discrepancies in a timely manner. 

  • Establish and maintain effective communication channels internally and externally. 

  • Contribute to the creation and documentation of standard operating procedures. 

  • Manage multiple priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. 

  • Quickly learn and proficiently operate multiple software systems on a daily basis. 

  • Support the implementation of new systems and processes as needed. 

  • Collaborate with the integration team to identify and resolve system or process issues. 

Required Skills/Abilities: 

  • Experience in freight billing, accounts payable, or a related accounting function preferred. 

  • Strong analytical skills with keen attention to detail. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment. 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with transportation management or accounting software a plus. 

  • Self-motivated with a demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team. 

Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s or Associates degree in a related field 

  • Transportation and/or auditing experience preferred 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Physical dexterity sufficient to use hands, arms, and shoulders repetitively to operate a keyboard and other office equipment, use a telephone, access file cabinets and other items stored at various levels, including overhead 

  • Ability to speak and hear well enough to communicate clearly and understandably with sufficient volume to ensure an accurate exchange of information in normal conversational distance, over the telephone, and in a group setting 

  • Ability to continuously operate a personal computer for extended periods of time (4 or more hours) 

  • Mental acuity sufficient to collect and interpret data, evaluate, reason, define problems, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, make valid judgments and decisions
